Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Housing Locksmith will perform master journey-level work, such as installation, repair, remodel and maintenance of manual and automated locks, locking systems, and security devices; including computerized access control systems, door openers, closers, and hardware.


Minimum Required Education

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum Required Experience

• Working knowledge of the principles, measures, standards, symbols, tools and hazards of the locksmith trade.

• Completion of an approved Locksmith Apprenticeship Program.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair various types of locks and security devices.

• Disassemble locks, and repair and replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts.

• Maintain and update automated key management system for the Housing Department to include all residence halls and assigned buildings.

• Cut new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.

• Interpret Master Keying Guide, and use appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the university’s master key system while meeting customer request.

• Respond to routine and emergency calls for repair and service.

• Perform all other duties and/or special projects assigned by the Supervisor.
