Position Summary

The Research Associate for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is expected to develop analytical procedures and instrumental approach for separation and speciation of mercury (Hg) species in contaminated soils using mercury cold vapor generation and inorganic mass spectrometry.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Minimum of Master’s degree (PhD desired) in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry.

Minimum Required Experience

Experience in Materials Chemistry is desired.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• The candidate is expected to develop analytical procedures and instrumental approach for separation and speciation of mercury (Hg) species in contaminated soils using mercury cold vapor generation and inorganic mass spectrometry.

• Assist with planning experiments according to literature.

• Develop methodology and process the data.

• Develop nanoscale materials for detection and characterization of mercury species in environmental and biological materials.

• Hands-on experience in materials chemistry and synthesis.

• Candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team, conduct research with collaborators and assist with supervising graduate and undergraduate students.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
