Position Summary

The HVAC Technician for the Department of Facilities and Construction Management will perform a variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of ventilation, heating and air conditioning units related to the care and maintenance of university buildings and facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Technical degree.

Minimum Required Experience

Five to seven (5-7) years of experience in HVAC systems.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

• Must have a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.

HVAC Certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge in electrical wiring, installation, troubleshooting and correcting diverse HVAC service issues, including preventative maintenance.

• Good analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to read and interpret blue prints, plans and manuals.

• Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance schedules for heaters/furnaces, air-conditioners and vent systems in all buildings.

• Inspect, maintain, and repair air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation.

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunction.

• Install, replace or repair damaged equipment. Calibrate thermostatic controls.

• Install/replace duct work, diffusers, registers and grilles.

• Ensure that equipment used in maintenance is kept clean and in proper working condition.

• Evaluate the energy efficiency of replacement parts and units.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
